MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Authorities with Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery are working around an issue that caused them to have to move to generator power.
Baptist Spokesman Tommy McKinnon says an electrical bus bar, a piece of equipment that conducts electricity from the service building to the hospital, failed Monday. There was no fire, McKinnon said, but they did have to move to a backup system to keep the facility from going dark.
Nursing units and clinical areas are functioning on the backup power supply and emergency power is being supplied to the most needed areas of the facility, including patients' rooms.
Non-clinical areas may not have any power, McKinnon said, adding that some elective surgeries have been rescheduled.
The Emergency Room and all trauma surgeries have gone on as normal.
A replacement part is on order, but McKinnon says it won't be installed until delivery Tuesday.
