Chris Sciambra was 4-for-4 in his return to the LSU lineup and scored the game's only run on Alex Bregman's first hit as a Tiger, and Aaron Nola combined with two relievers to shut out Maryland 1-0 in the season opener at Alex Box Stadium.

Nola pitched into the seventh inning allowing just two hits and one walk, while striking out nine. Joey Bourgeois and Chris Cotton held the lead, with Cotton getting the save.

A stadium record paid attendance of 12,373 was announced. The actual crowd was 9,746.

Sciambra doubled in the third inning and came home when the freshman shortstop Bregman singled back up the middle on a 2 strike, 2 out pitch from losing pitcher Jimmy Reed.

Ryan Eades will start game two as LSU (1-0) continue the series against Maryland (0-1) Saturday at 1:00pm.
