Fire, explosion destroy New Hope home

Posted: Updated:

A fire destroyed a home in New Hope early Friday morning.

The fire started around 1:30 a.m, inside the house on the 10,000 block of Highway 431, just south of Main Drive.

The fire marshal said it appears the fire started in the kitchen, then got out of control.

Shortly after firefighters began fighting the blaze, an explosion happened inside the house, knocking several firefighters to the ground. They were not hurt.

The fire marshal says the explosion was caused by a resident's oxygen tank.

After the blast, flames engulfed the home, and it was destroyed.

HEMSI treated four people at the scene.

The Red Cross is helping the six people who lived in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
