SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -
Fired Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray was reinstated by the city's Civil Service Board.
Ray was suspended with pay in November 2012 when Mayor Ian Sanford accused Ray of insubordination, malfeasance in office, and conduct detrimental to good order and discipline to the department.
Mayor Sanford recommended that the Civil Service Board terminate Chief Ray.
The board held a public hearing last week and returned their decision Wednesday. They concluded that the charges were not proven at the hearing, and Chief Ray was reinstated to his position.
Ray has been with the city of Sheffield for 20 years, and has been serving as chief since December 2007.
