My Take - Post Office Saturday Delivery

Last week we heard from a lot of people up in arms over the post office stopping Saturday service. I have to admit, I was a bit surprised by the level of outrage. In a capitalist society, good business models survive and poor ones fail. The post office has been operating from essentially the same business model for decades and change was long overdue. I hate to see jobs lost, post offices closed, and mail delivery limited to weekdays - but taxpayers should not have to be continually bailing out and propping up a no longer relevant business model. When there was no other inexpensive way for people to send messages or items long distances, it made sense to use tax dollars to keep the service running. Now, with email, text messaging, cell phones, free shipping on many purchases and multiple shipping options that don't rely on the post office, the time have come to let capitalism take its course and cut the cord.
