LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Jury selection is underway in a cold case murder in the Shoals.
Alfred Johnson, 42, is accused of beating Keith Barnett to death back in 2000.
Jury selection started first thing Monday morning and lasted all day.
Alfred and his brother, Shannon Johnson, were both arrested following a drug bust in 2011. Investigators said during that bust they found new information that pointed towards Alfred and Shannon as potential suspects.
Just last year, Shannon pleaded guilty to manslaughter and has agreed to testify against his brother.
The brothers are accused of beating then 22-year-old Barnett and leaving him unconscious in a ditch on Alabama 17 near the Tennessee state line.
Barnett died nearly two months later in a hospital.
Opening statements are expected to begin on Tuesday.
