SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -
A sixth-grade teacher at Collins Elementary School has been suspended for 10 days without pay for excessive tardiness.
Sara Anderton's suspension was recommended by Scottsboro City Schools Superintendent Dr. Judy Berry. The Board of Education approved it during Thursday's regular meeting.
According to Berry, excessive tardiness had been an ongoing issue last school year and this school year for Anderton. Berry presented several emails and letters that were sent to Anderton regarding the issue.
Berry said during the 2011-2012 school year Anderton was late 105 of the 149 days. From the beginning of the current school year to January 24, she had been late 73 of the 87 days.
At the meeting, Berry said the suspension had nothing to do with Anderton's teaching abilities.
