HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

You immediately know that 11-year-old Nathan Silas is a top student because when asked his favorite subject and why he responds, "I'd have to say it's math because it's a little easy."

While Nathan is home schooled, he does take classes with other home schooled kids at Life Gate Academy. He says he likes learning at home because it has benefits that allow him to learn better.

"Well home schooling is like you can learn at your own pace. If you're a late sleeper you can sleep late and you can start anytime you want," he said.

Nathan still participates in several activities including K kids and builders club, he volunteers and even had a role in a school play. But while acting is a favorite activity and math a favorite subject, his plans for the future have more to do with art.

"I might want to be a cartoonist, I've been drawing a little," says Nathan.

However right now Nathan says his priority is his studies.
