After having won the first game of the series on Friday night, the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team capped off the weekend with two strong wins in a doubleheader against Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at Charger Park.
Game 1: UAH-11 TNU-4
In game one UAH put together a solid all-around performance to cruise to an 11-4 win. Alex Aultman (1-0) turned in a solid eight innings of two-run ball. Remarkably, he went the whole eight without allowing a walk while striking out four batters.
The Chargers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Chase Handley brought both runs home with a single up the middle. Cody Burton and Justin Pearson scored on the hit.
UAH then plated three more runs in the second. Blake Massey, after reaching base by getting hit by a pitch, later scored on a Chandler Brock sac fly. Vincent Kortbawi then came to the plate and delivered a single to right field, which the right fielder committed an error on, allowing Burton and Pearson to score again.
Handley scored a run in the third on a wild pitch and Burton crossed home for the third time in the fourth inning on Conner McCain's left field single before Trevecca managed to score their first run in the fifth inning. UAH would, however, add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 9-1.
The Trojans got a home run in the seventh inning, but UAH answered with two more in the bottom half on two good hits from Blake Massey and Cody Burton. Burton had a great day at the dish as he was a perfect five for five with three runs scored, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. Trevecca plated two in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Logan Crook shut the door.
Game 2: UAH-9 TNU-1
In game two Andrew Busby (1-0) attempted to one-up Aultman's performance from game one and turned in a stunning display of pitching. Busby threw a complete game (7 IP) only allowing one unearned run and four hits while striking out seven. Perhaps the most compelling stat of his night was the fact he only gave up two fly balls. It was an all around dominance from the mound.
The runs came slowly for the Chargers, as they only had one through the first three. That run coming from a Jud Sherrill single that scored Vincent Kortbawi in the second inning. Trevecca tied it in the fourth off an error, but UAH retook the lead in the bottom half on a triple by Conner McCain.
Then the floodgates opened.
Four runs crossed the plate in the fifth, spearheaded by a leadoff double from Brad Clay. Clay would score on a fielder's choice delivered by Cody Burton. A throwing error on Justin Riddle's single allowed Burton to score and Riddle followed suit when Chandler Brock knocked a double to right. Brock capped off the inning's scoring when he crossed home on a wild pitch.
UAH made the most of their last inning at the bat as they added three more to their total. Chase Handley reached base after being hit with a pitch, stole second, advanced to third on Brad Clay's single, and then scored on a bunt single by Burton. Finally, with two runners on, Brock delivered a crushing two RBI single that put the score to the final of 9-1.
