ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An AR-15 stolen from an Albertville patrol car in Marshall County was recovered.

Nearly four months after it was stolen, it was discovered more than 40 miles away in Calhoun County.

Albertville Police said the rifle was found at a residence in the Ohatchee community.

Chief Doug Pollard said the weapon was in excellent shape except that all of the ammunition had been fired or removed.

It was stolen from the patrol car of an Albertville police officer while parked at his home.

Pollard said extra effort had to be used to remove it because it was in a locked rack inside the patrol car.

Pollard believes it had been sold for drugs more than once before coming into the hands of the final person in Calhoun County.

"I'm just glad we got it back off the street now, and got it out of the way.  Now you don't have to worry about that rifle being out here, wandering around, being used on innocent people," he said.

Pollard said two juveniles were taken into custody back in November in relation to the theft.

The weapon has now been returned to the officer.
