BLODGETT, MO (KFVS) -

Looking for love that will last a lifetime?

It turns out flowers, chocolate, and romance just might not be the answer according to a Blodgett couple.

Wayne and Polly Reeves are about to celebrate 70 years of marriage.

They still laugh together, and reminisce about the good old days.

In September of 1943 Wayne and Polly's journey began.

Polly was 20-years-old, and Wayne was 17. They were next door neighbors.

"I couldn't stand him," said Polly Reeves.

"At first I didn't think too much of her, then she growed on me," said Wayne Reeves.

They weren't too fond of each other at first.

"But it happened," said Wayne Reeves.

They fell in love. This year Polly will turn 90, and Wayne will turn 87.

"We're still here," said Wayne Reeves.

They are very proud of their big family.

"We had 7 children...5 girls and 2 boys," said Polly and Wayne.

They also have 17 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

"We're not lonesome," said Wayne.

Their daughters say the family motto has always been, "You'll never be poor if you have laughter".

For a couple that survived hard economic times, it's evident what has held this family together.

Wayne says it also goes a little deeper than that.

"Clean living and a little bit of trust, been together all these years and have never been separated."

As for romance, when asked if her husband ever does sweet things for her Polly responded: "My husband, no."

They both had a good laugh over that.

"I always thought if I was here that was enough," said Wayne.

They both really do love each other.

"She takes care of me," said Wayne.

"He's been a good husband and a good father," said Polly.

They say marriage is all about compromise, and commitment.

"You made that commitment, supposed to live by it," said Wayne.

They continue to vow to stay together through the good times and the bad.

"Just kept a going, 70 years of it," said Wayne.

Wayne and Polly will renew their wedding vows on their 70 year anniversary this coming September.
