BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

Elementary school children in Boaz had their heads in the clouds Thursday, learning about the world of aerospace aviation.

Cadets of the Civil Air Patrol marched in front of an address by the state commander.

Colonel Brad Lynn spoke to the kids about being an airline pilot as part of the school's Aerospace Connection in Education program.

Lynn said you can become a pilot at the age of 16, but to advance, you need to study hard.

"We really want to push the STEM program, which is science, technology, engineering, and math and show them how important that is and what they could do with that in life," he said.

A United Airlines pilot, Lynn told the group he's flying to Hong Kong on Friday.
