FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -
A man can come up with some pretty ingenious ways to get the girl of his dreams to go out on a date. A Fort Payne High School student used a downtown marquee to ask a girl to prom.
This was a gutsy move to make, especially since they have never been out on a date before, and it had to be tough on him because she did not answer him right away.
You can only imagine Preslie Gifford's expression when her mom drove her through downtown Fort Payne Monday to see the theater's marquee with a request from fellow Fort Payne student Blake Owen asking her if she would go to the prom with him.
Preslie said she didn't answer him right away. In fact, she told Blake he would have to wait a day - until Tuesday. She said the answer would be on the marquee.
He was likely relieved to know her answer when the marquee said, "Blake, yes, I would love to, Preslie."
"I don't think any prom invitation can top that. I don't think so," said Preslie. "You can't say no to that. That's so sweet. That's precious."
Both are now anxious about going on the big date. Prom is set for April 13th.
