RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Civil lawsuits have been filed on behalf of seven students
injured in a school bus wreck in Franklin County.
That wreck happened on Highway 172 in Vina on November 1,
2012. Twenty-nine students were on board. The crash happened after the bus left
Vina High School.
The driver of the other vehicle involved, Channing Haithcock,
is named in the lawsuits.
The complaint filed
in Franklin County Circuit Court states Haithcock was doing at least 75 miles
an hour when he went into a skid and collided with the bus. The impact caused
the bus to overturn.
Students had to use the escape hatch to get out of the bus.
Twenty students, the bus driver and Haithcock went to the hospital.
At least one of the plaintiffs in this case wants the
lawsuit to go before a jury.
Alabama State Troopers handled the investigation. In the
days following the crash, investigators said they were working to determine if
speed was a factor.
Haithcock does not face any criminal charges.
Trial dates have not been set for the civil lawsuits.
