Last week when a bus driver was shot dead and a 5 year old taken hostage, I was surprised to learn that trespassing on a school bus is a misdemeanor. There is no reason for anyone who is not a driver or a parent of a student to get on a school bus. Anyone who does should face more than a nominal fine and a warning not to do it again. Thankfully, I am not alone in my thoughts on this. Local legislators have pre-filed a bill that, if passed, will make bus trespass a felony I urge everyone to contact their state representatives and tell them to take a stand and toughen the law. While a stricter law may not stop every nut who wants to get on a school bus, the law must be tougher. Most everything that is a felony still happens, but at least there are significant consequences when it does. Everyone should contact their local legislator and tell them to vote yes on making bus trespass a felony.
