Sheriff
Mike Waguespack said one of his deputies on a routine patrol got behind a car
doing 30 mph in a 55 mph zone. He added after seeing the car cross the center
line near LA 308 and LA 70 Spur in Paincourtville the deputy turned on his
flashing lights to stop the car.
According
to reports, the driver sped up to about 90 mph. Authorities said he blew through
the Bertrandville area, eventually made it back onto LA 70 and headed into
Ascension Parish. They added in addition to the speed, he committed several
other traffic violations.
Deputies
said Jamison then headed north on LA 1 at speeds over 100 mph and went into
Iberville Parish, where he finally slowed down and pulled onto the shoulder.
However, instead of stopping, officials said he made a u-turn. One of the
deputies that had been chasing him tried to box him in, but investigators said
Jamison rammed the passenger side of the patrol unit.
Waguespack
said at that point, the deputy jumped out of his car and fired three rounds
into one of the suspect's tires. He added the suspect's car soon stopped and
Jamison was taken into custody. He reported the arresting deputies smelled
alcohol on Jamison's breath and saw an open beer bottle in the car. According
to a news release, the deputies also found a gun in a paper bag in the vehicle.
Authorities
noted Jamison has had two recent DWI arrests and a possession of cocaine arrest
pending in court from Oct. 8, 2012 and Jan. 20, 2013.
