Formal consideration for two Boaz businesses to receive the first alcohol licenses in the city is set for Monday. This is after residents voted last November to allow the last dry city in Marshall County to sell alcohol.
Since the vote, the city has been setting up an alcohol license review committee. Now that committee will begin to look at the first of several businesses who wish to sell alcohol.
The Downtown Mini Mart located at 300 North Main Street and the Walmart store located on Highway 431 in Boaz will be the first two businesses the city's newly installed alcohol license review committee will consider. Both businesses are seeking a city license to sell beer and wine for off premise use only.
Since the public's vote last November, the city has been working to pass an ordinance allowing for alcohol sales as well as setting up the review committee.
The committee will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday at City Hall where they will go over the businesses' applications and make a recommendation to the city council.
If approved by the committee, the recommendation will then go for a vote before the Boaz City Council at their February 11th meeting. That meeting is set for 6 p.m.
