FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -
An 18-year-old murder suspect was denied youthful offender status Thursday.
Autumn Wood appeared in a Lauderdale County Court Thursday morning. A judge denied her request for youthful offender status.
If Wood had been granted youthful offender status, it would have severely limited the amount of time she would spend behind bars. Under Alabama law, if someone is granted youthful offender status, the maximum time they could spend behind bars is three years.
Wood is charged with murder for the stabbing of 14-year-old Brooklyn Hollins. Investigators said she stabbed Hollins to death with a kitchen knife at a house party in Florence last March.
Wood pleaded not guilty.
Wood's attorney claims the stabbing was in self defense after she was jumped.
