My Take - Meth Lab

Last week we reported yet another case of people arrested making meth in a hotel room. They won't go on record with it, but more than one law enforcement official has said that the owners or managers of many of the hotels where this takes place, know exactly what their patrons are up to. The problem for law enforcement is no manager or owner is going to admit to knowing what was going on in their hotel Absent proof of their knowing, there is next to nothing police can do. Since we can't count on owners or managers to be responsible, we need our legislators to step in. Several states have passed laws that hold the owners of hotels where drugs are manufactured responsible. To stay open after a bust, they have to pay for expensive decontamination. The cost alone is a deterrent. If that doesn't stop the problem, they are shut down and the owners held criminally liable as an accomplice in the manufacture of a controlled substance. Other states have done it - it is time for Alabama to follow suit.
