"Thank you for all your support. It means the world to me. Today was an awesome day and so fun to be out there," tweeted McNamara. "Oh how I love Nazare."
A photo reportedly showing McNamara on the 100 foot monster has gone viral. According to SurferToday.com the image was captured by European photographer Tó Mané.
"I feel very blessed and I feel that we've achieved everything we wanted to do with Portugal and Nazare, especially. We've been planning this for a while and it feels really amazing to share with everybody," he told surfertoday.com.
The surfing website also says that scientists from a Portuguese university estimate the wave at 111.5 feet. The scientists used software that used McNamara's surfboard as a reference to the whole wave face.
