TOWN CREEK, AL (WAFF) -
A federal grand jury indicted former Town Creek police officer, Brandon Shane Mundy, on a civil rights violation.
U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance says it happened during an arrest in November of 2009. Mundy is accused of hitting a man with a "dangerous weapon" and causing bodily harm.
The FBI is handing the investigation.
Fatal Wreck
Mundy also faces charges in connection to a 2010 wreck in Lawrence County. Mundy was working for the North Courtland Police Department when the wreck happened.
State Troopers say Mundy ran a stop sign on County Road 217. His patrol car collided with a car driven by Gary Cox.
Cox and his wife Sandra died in the crash.
Troopers say Mundy was on his way to help with a funeral procession when the wreck happened.
Mundy's vehicular homicide trial is set for February 25.
Mundy is also being sued by the family of Gary and Sandra Cox.
