LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Investigators arrested a Limestone County couple on child abuse charges.
Deputies received a 911 call from an 11-year-old at a home on McKee Road Monday. The boy told dispatchers he was being abused by his mother and her boyfriend.
Deputies found bruises on the child's back and shoulders from being struck by a belt.
Investigators arrested Lorie Lynn Ayers and Steven Wornkey. Both were charged with child abuse and possession of marijuana. The child was placed with a family member.
After reading our story online, Lorie Ayers contacted the station to give us her side of the story. She sent us the following statement. It's provided in its entirety, unedited.
"I, Lorie Ayres, do not appreciate false information being broadcasted about
my family. There is only ONE mark on my child's back, which is not from a belt!
It is from him jutting the dresser when he was throwing himself down to
avoid his BUTT being whipped. These false allegations being on the news could ruin
my career and possibly my life. If u are going to air stories of this nature,
then u should do some investigating of your own. We all know that a person can
be charged with a crime that they haven't committed, so perhaps you should wait
for a conviction on cases where false allegations could negatively affect
someones life forever!!"
