HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Forecasters say clashing weather systems are creating a chance for severe weather in Alabama.
The WAFF 48 Storm Team says severe storms with damaging winds, heavy rain, and even an isolated tornado are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday.
A strong storm system and cold front pushing in from the west is meeting up with unseasonably warm and moist air flowing northward from the Gulf of Mexico.
Strong to severe thunderstorms will arrive after midnight. The time frame looks like 2-5 a.m. for the Shoals and Northwest Alabama, 4-7 a.m. for the Huntsville/Athens/Decatur area, and 6-9 a.m. for Northeast Alabama.
The primary threat remains damaging straight-line winds of 60-80mph. An isolated tornado is also possible. Make sure you have a way of getting weather warnings since these storms will be arriving while many of you are sleeping.
Rain will wind down around mid-morning Wednesday as the stronger storms push to our east. Temperatures will begin the day in the low to mid 60s, then quickly drop into the 50s for the remainder of the day. We will stay windy through Wednesday afternoon.
Stay with the WAFF 48 Storm Team on-air and online for updates on this developing weather threat.
