TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC) -
Trussville firefighters found a body on Saturday afternoon after removing an abandoned vehicle from a lake. Firefighters were in the process of pulling the vehicle out when they discovered another vehicle in the lake.
Officials say the body of a man was discovered inside a white pickup truck. The Trussville Police Chief says they have determined the man's name, but we are choosing not to release it at this time. We are going to wait until the coroner's office confirms the name through dental records.
What we can tell you is the man is from Margaret in St. Clair County. He was last seen February 5th, 2012. He left his brother's house, saying he was going to work.
People who work near the lake saw the police and fire trucks, but they did not know about the gruesome discovery until later.
"That's really sad. That person has been missing since February and that he got found in the lake," said Whitney Crow, who works in Trussville.
We are told the victim's family has been notified and they are cooperating with police. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office says they will release the man's name later today.
Investigators say it appears the truck entered the water at a high rate of speed.
