BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The man accused of killing two
people at the Grady Crawford Construction Company back in December 2009 will be
getting a psychological evaluation. Richard Matthews is charged with two counts
of first degree murder.
Greg Matthews will face three
psychiatrists as they try to determine if Matthews can assist in his own
defense. Judge Tony Marabella ordered the panel after the prosecution requested
the evaluation. Defense attorneys objected but to no avail.
"The case needs to get
moved along. There are possibly sanity issues. In order not to delay the case
any longer were asking for a sanity hearing; let someone look at him, evaluate
him, make sure he can assist his counsel and proceed with the trial," said
District Attorney Hillar Moore.
Matthews has confessed
several times on camera to killing two people in 2009, saying he killed the
wrong people. The two women killed were secretaries at Grady Crawford
Construction.
The judge ordered Matthews
back in court on April 5, 2013.
