Former US Army General Russel Honore says he does not agree
with the new Pentagon policy allowing women to fight in combat. "It appeared
that this movement in Washington may not be centered on the needs of the
military," Honore tells 9News.
"As much as it's centered on to demonstrate how progressive
we are in our approach. There's going to be missions and units that may not be
necessarily enhanced with women on the missions of these small isolated
infantry closed combat special operations."
The Pentagons move opens up 200,000 jobs for females, mostly
in the army and marines. Mindy Stewart is a former US Army soldier, she was
stationed in Germany much of her career. "So weather you're in the Army, Navy,
Air Force, or Marines, females have been in combat operations. So give the
distinction, I'm 100 percent for that," Stewart says.
The changes will not occur over night. The new policy will
be phased in over the next three years.
