BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
People were forced out of their apartments by a fire late Wednesday night.
It sparked on Bruce Alley, which is off Terrace Avenue and not far from the Garden District in Baton Rouge, just after 10 p.m.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department said it is believed the fire started in the bedroom of one of the units.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to that unit, but two others received smoke and water damage.
Neighbors said they woke up to the building engulfed in flames. They used water hoses to keep the fire from spreading until firefighters arrived.
"I came out the house and all I saw was the apartment in the back just engulfed in flames," said Ronald Walker. "It was flaming like 10 feet in the air. I just pulled the hose, trying to keep it from spreading, trying to spray water on the back fence."
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but investigators said they do not suspect foul play.
