BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
After more than two decades on Birmingham radio, syndicated radio talk show host Paul Finebaum was not "on the air" Tuesday after leaving WJOX-FM.
The news broke Tuesday morning that Finebaum and his staff at the Paul Finebaum Radio Network had left WJOX-FM after their contract expired at midnight. The website for WJOX, a Cumulus station, removed Finebaum's show from the programming schedule Tuesday morning.
The Paul Finebaum Radio Network was also absent from its affiliate stations and Sirius/XM, marking the first time Paul had not hosted his daily radio show since it went on the air in 1980's.
FOX6 News contacted Pat Smith, network director for the Paul Finebaum Radio Network, who declined comment.
A report on outkickthecoverage.com says WJOX-FM Program Director Ryan Haney will become program director at 97.3 FM The Zone in Birmingham. FOX6 News contacted Haney who declined comment. The report also says Finebaum will also be moving to 97.3 FM The Zone, although that part of the story has not been confirmed by Finebaum or his network.
The Birmingham Business Journal said Tuesday Finebaum's contract with WJOX's parent company allows WJOX the opportunity to match any contract offer Finebaum receives up to 90 days after the contract expired.
FOX6 News contacted David Dubose, general manager of the Cox radio stations in Birmingham, which includes 97.3 FM. Dubose declined comment.
