POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) -
State Troopers say a man has been killed in a single vehicle accident on LA Hwy 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash happened early Saturday morning just before 4:30 am.
Investigators say Willet Jarreau, 72, was driving north on LA Hwy 1 when for unknown reasons he failed to negotiate a curve and his vehicle ran off the road. After leaving the roadway his vehicle hit an embankment and went airborne before coming to rest on the passenger side.
Jarreau was not wearing his seatbelt and died as a result of his injuries in the crash. It is unknown whether he was impaired at the time, toxicology results are pending.
