The No. 9 University of Alabama in Huntsville
men's basketball team is set to host rival North Alabama on Saturday at 7 p.m.
at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers enter the showdown at 13-2 (6-1
Gulf South Conference), while UNA visits at 11-3 (4-2 GSC).
A week ago when the Chargers were at home last, the squad dropped a 59-53 decision to Delta State, but the team responded nicely with a 78-62 victory on the road at Union on Thursday. Jaime Smith scored 19 more points in the contest, and he now averages 18.0 points per game.
UAH shot the ball much better against Union, recovering from the 30.2 percent shooting night against Delta to shoot 47.2 percent in the road win, and the Chargers continue to lead the conference in field goal percentage as the team has connected on a strong 49.5 percent of its shots on the season as six Chargers are shooting better than 50 percent.
A season ago, the Chargers swept the season series with UNA – including a 90-68 romp in Huntsville on the last day of the regular season – and UAH narrowed its gap in the all-time series with the Lions as UNA owns a 32-23 edge.
In the big victory, Zane Campbell scored 14 points, while Conner Blasi was also strong with 12 points in the contest.
The Lions have won three of their past five games, but the team was tripped up on Thursday in an 80-73 setback to Shorter in Florence. Rashuan Claiborne sits on top of the UNA offensive ledger with a 14.0 points per game scoring average, while Bruce Adams and DeAndre Hersey sit just behind with 13.4 and 13.1 points per contest, respectively.
Live stats and video for the contest will be available at uahchargers.com, and the game will be carried locally in the Tennessee Valley on 97.7 The Zone.
