PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -
Authorities have called off a manhunt until Saturday morning for a domestic violence suspect who hit a police officer's vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Officials in Mayor Bill Gillispie's office say Prattville police were responding to a domestic violence in progress call. When the officers arrive on scene, they witnessed an altercation in a vehicle and activated their blue, emergency lights. That's when the suspect, identified as Selma resident David Hunter, pulled forward and struck an undercover police officer's unit.
Hunter then fled the scene.
Police pursued the man who crashed into a mobile home at an area mobile home park on Hwy. 82 a short time later. Hunter then fled on foot into the woods.
Alabama State Troopers quickly responded to the scene, bringing out a state helicopter to assist. The Alabama Department of Corrections also brought in tracking dogs.
The manhunt for Hunter will resume Saturday morning.
