PONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) -
A single vehicle crash Thursday claimed the life of a man in Ponchatoula.
State Police say the driver, whose name has not been released, was heading north on LA 445 in a pickup when the pickup's right tires drifted off the road, causing the driver to swerve left and lose control of the truck.
The truck ran off the road and hit a ditch embankment, throwing the driver from the pickup.
The driver was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
State Police say the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Troopers suspect the driver was impaired at the time of the crash. A sample has been sent to the State Police Crime Lab for testing.
