DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -
A reported theft from the Denham Springs Walmart led to a fatal crash on Tate Rd.
According to reports, police were called to the store just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. While heading to the store, officers received a description of the suspect's vehicle, a green Ford SUV.
A responding officer passed the SUV going the other direction on Tate Rd. Witnesses say while the officer turned around, the driver of the SUV accelerated and passed other cars.
When the officer caught up to the SUV, it had left the road, hit a tree and overturned.
The driver of the SUV, Sonya Turner, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
