JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Emergency Management Agency officials are turning their sights to a snow threat in Marshall, Jackson, and DeKalb counties.

Jackson County purchased some snow plows in 2012, and they will probably install them on the trucks soon to make sure they are prepared - and they're not alone.

County road crews in neighboring DeKalb County are putting on the spreaders should snow begin to become an issue.

They have a large chert pile of ground rock to put on the roads to allow vehicles to have traction in the snow as well as ice.

EMA officials said they received a briefing around 2 p.m. Wednesday, which led to the real possibility for snow on Thursday.

DeKalb County EMA director Anthony Clifton said that's why they like to prepare early so they can handle whatever comes their way.

"We have talked to the road department.  So far, they're pre-positioning some spreader trucks with some gravel chips on it.  Of course, they will be working closely with the DOT on the state highways," said Clifton.

In Jackson County, they estimated they could see snowfall in the range of two to four inches.
