MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
The Marshall County Commission
has approved seeking bids for 20 new weather warning sirens to be placed in the
county.
There are already 39
scattered throughout the area.
Officials said they're
getting a grant stemming from the April 2011 Disaster Declaration.
Emergency Management Agency officials said
they'll be placed in strategic locations where tornadoes have historically
tracked to get better coverage.
"We've finally been
able to install some sirens in some areas where we have denser populations; we
have a lot of outdoor activities going on through the county," said
Marshall County EMA director Anita McBurnett.
EMA officials hope bids
will be let out and construction can begin sometime in February.
