BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

U.S. Marshals captured a man wanted in multiple bank robberies today at a home in north Birmingham.

Jimmy Dawson Cunningham, Jr. was suspected in several bank robberies in the Birmingham area, including three in Mountain Brook and most recently, one in Pelham.

U.S. Marshal Marty Keely says the Gulf Coast Task Force arrested Cunningham around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 2000 block of 36 Avenue North. Officials say they arrested him without incident, and he even told them he knew his run "was about over" when they caught him.

The homeowner at the residence where Cunningham was caught had an outstanding warrant out of Gardendale. The homeowner is identified as Fredrick James Hardrick, and he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge for unpaid traffic tickets. Authorities did not release information about the connection between Cunningham and Hardrick or say why Cunningham was staying at Hardrick's home.

The FBI said they suspected Cunningham of robbing the Union State Bank in Pelham on Monday, Jan. 14. Cunningham is also linked to the Jan. 3 robbery at Cahaba Heights NBC, the Jan. 8 robbery at Mountain Brook PNC, the Jan. 10 robbery at a Mountain Brook Regions, and the Jan. 10 robbery at a bank in Cullman.

Warrants have not yet been obtained against Cunningham in all of the robberies, but Cullman officials say they will likely file a warrant against him tomorrow. Authorities say Cunningham is cooperating with them and even confessed to the Cullman bank robbery.

Cunningham sported a shaved or bald head in some of the surveillance images of the bank robberies. He was described as a white male in his 30's, 6'2", 190 pounds, with the distinguishing mark of a sun tattoo near his left ear.

Cunningham's wife, Jodi Cunningham, has spoken with FOX6 News and says the man she has seen in the surveillance images is not the Jimmy she knows.

Jodi said everything started a few days ago when she filed a missing persons report on her husband. But when detectives called, it wasn't the news she expected. They asked her to identify the man suspected in several bank robberies as her husband.

"I was afraid that he would get hurt, get killed, or kill somebody else. I didn't know, I didn't know what was going to happen. It just wasn't him, it wasn't like him," she said.

Jodi says her husband has been dealing with a drug problem for several years, but had been doing fine. She believes that recent stress in his work as a chef may have triggered his addiction and led him to start robbing banks.
