BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the robbery of an armored vehicle and a shooting that happened before noon on Monday.
Officers say the security guard driving the vehicle was parked at a Kangaroo gas station and Subway restaurant on Arkadelphia Road when he was approached by two armed men. The suspects shot the guard in the shoulder, stole the white armored van and took off. The guard was taken to the hospital, but his condition is unknown.
Police say the van was making a routine trip to the store to pick up money. The stolen van was discovered around 1:30 p.m. It's not clear whot he van belongs to. Officials say the suspects are two black males.
The gas station was closed for a few hours on Monday while police conducted their investigation.
