Winter weather advisory in effect for some areas

Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

It's back to winter this week across the area.

A stalled cold front to our east won't move much through midweek and will continue to provide the focus for more rain over the next few days.  Another wave of steady rain is expected to develop by this afternoon.  Temperatures today will hover in the upper 30s to around 40.

As temperatures drop off tonight some light freezing rain or drizzle may develop in NW Alabama.

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin and Lawrence Counties in NW Alabama and Lincoln and Moore counties in Tennessee through 9am Tuesday.

Elsewhere, temperatures should stay just warm enough to keep any precipitation in liquid form.  Lows tonight will be in the low to mid 30s.

Additional steady rain will develop on Tuesday.  Highs remain around the 40 degree mark.

Rain will begin to taper off by Wednesday, but before it's all over an additional 2-3" of rain looks likely across the area.

Another shot of moisture will move through on Thursday, but it does appear that the weekend will be dry.  Temperatures by the end of the week and into the weekend will climb back into the low 50s.
