NEW ORLEANS (AP) -
Marion Edwards, the younger brother of four-time Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards, has died at his home in Broussard, La.
He was 84. The cause of death was not released.
Edwards was a constant presence in his brother's political campaigns. And he was his brother's co-defendant in the 1980s when federal prosecutors accused them of corruption in a health care scheme. Prosecutors referred to Marion as a "bag man" for Edwin. Marion later lampooned that characterization by walking into a French Quarter bar with a shopping bag on his head.
Both men were acquitted, although Edwin Edwards would eventually serve prison time in an unrelated case.
Family members said Marion, a cancer survivor, often counseled other cancer patients later in life. Funeral services are set for Tuesday in Crowley, La.
