HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
NASA has awarded a $17.8 million contract to Bigelow Aerospace to add an expandable module to the International Space Station.
The agency said it wants to demonstrate the
inflatable modules so they can be used in future space exploration and
for commercial use. The company was founded by Robert Bigelow in 1999.
A one-third model of a Bigelow commercial space
station is currently on display at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in
Huntsville. Al.com reports the module would remain on the station for two years.
