BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

Boaz voted to go wet last year, and now businesses are lining up to get their alcohol licenses.

The first two businesses filed requests for a license, and the businesses couldn't be more different.

First is the downtown Mini Mart, and the second is Walmart. Both are looking for beer and wine sales.

A majority of citizens approved the alcohol referendum this past November.

Since then, the city council has adopted an alcohol ordinance and set up an alcohol board.

City officials said businesses applying will now go through state background checks before final approval.

Mini Mart owner Neal Patel said it's a win-win for his businesses and the city.

He hopes to see greater revenues, which will pass on in sales tax to the city.

City officials said a date has not yet been set for the alcohol board to consider approval of the requests.
