HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Friends and the community are saluting a Columbia High School sports standout.
Tyrell Spencer was honored during a ceremony Friday morning.
He died in November of 2010 after a medical emergency at the Richard Showers Center.
Community leaders unveiled a plaque in his memory.
"He worked hard, he made good grades, and he made the most of life. His life ended early, but he made the most of his life and that's the thing that we all have to celebrate," said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.
Tyler's family said his ultimate goal was to go to college, and he was being recruited by several schools as a track athlete before he died.
