GARDENDALE, AL (WAFF) - Gardendale Police released more information in the fatal shooting and stabbing at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church parsonage.
Investigators said 54-year-old Dr. Terry Greer shot his wife, 52-year-old Lisa Greer, and his daughter, 18-year-old Suzanna Greer, with a pistol Thursday at their home in the 5800 block of Country Meadow Drive. Greer's daughter was able to wrestle the pistol away from him and run from the home.
Suzanna Greer ran to a neighbor's house, who called Gardendale Police. When she ran from the home, Greer stabbed himself repeatedly with a kitchen knife in the bathroom.
When officers arrived, they stopped Greer from stabbing himself, and restrained him.
All three of the Greers were taken to UAB ER for treatment. Lisa Greer died Friday morning. Suzanna Greer is in stable condition at UAB.
Terry Greer is in stable condition after undergoing surgery, and under guard at the hospital. Warrants were issued for Terry Greer for murder and attempted murder. He will be taken into custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office as soon as he recovers. His bond will be set at $135,000.
Police have not released any information about a motive in the attack.
Terry Greer was formerly the pastor at First United Methodist Church in Decatur, and moved to Gardendale in 2012. Lisa taught at Chestnut Grove Elementary, Walter Jackson Elementary, and Austinville Elementary while the family lived in Decatur.
Decatur School Superintendent end Nichols said the community is stunned over the death of Lisa Greer.
Greer also served as associate pastor at Latham United Methodist Church in Huntsville.
The Methodist Conference is working on plans to counsel and help the Decatur congregation and has already sent counselors to Greer's church in Gardendale as calls go out to the neighbors.
