Drivers beware … On January 1st a state law aimed to make sure you're insured when you get behind the wheel went into effect. The Alabama Mandatory Liability Insurance Law will keep people from trying to beat the system by partially paying on their insurance plan, getting the card and then never pay again. The online insurance verification system will immediately verify insurance status in real time. While it should not be necessary for a law to be enacted, it's the only way to make sure drivers will have damages paid for if they get in an accident. Troopers will check for proof of insurance if they are at a wreck or if you are pulled over for something else. Driving uninsured will cost you up to $500 for the first violation and up to $1,000 for the second. That's probably more than what insurance will cost you ….. Is it worth trying to beat the system? I'm Vanessa Oubre and that's My Take, What's Yours?
