HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The Better
Business Bureau is getting ready to issue an alert involving stolen social
security checks.
A Valley
woman had her social security number compromised, and two of her checks were
re-routed to other accounts in Georgia and South Dakota.
Michele Mason
with the BBB says anyone on social security disability or anyone required to
give your social security number to receive benefits is at risk.
"We
found last fall many cases all over the U.S. where they put the money on
pre-paid debit cards and then transferred it into a Green Dot Money PAC to
eliminate the paper trail," she said.
Mason
said it's really hard to safe-guard yourself from this scam. The best thing you
can do is keep a close eye on your bank account at all times so you can catch
it quickly.
