Florence to host ProGrass International Scout Bowl

Football fever isn't over in the Shoals. Football fever isn't over in the Shoals.
FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Football fever isn't over in the Shoals.

A spring game planned in Florence will not only bring some big names to the area but also put northwest Alabama into the international spotlight.

The Bowl season ended Monday night and with an Alabama victory at that, but this Bowl is different.

It's called the ProGrass International Scout Bowl, and it will give football players a second chance to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NFL or CFL.

The event will bring the top 70 prospects from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe to the Shoals.

For one week they will be coached by former NFL and NCAA Division I coaches, finishing up the week with a televised game on ESPN at Braly Stadium to showcase their talents.

The Shoals community is excited to welcome the players and visitors to the area for the first event of its kind.

"The fact that the Bowl game will  actually be played on ESPN - that is huge. That's huge television advertisement for the Shoals area that we would not be able to pay for otherwise, and it's wonderful because we have all these people that have never been here before that get to come and see what a great area we have," said Suzie Shoemaker with Florence-Lauderdale Tourism.

Tickets for the game on March 15th are already on sale.
