The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections continues to search for Keana Barnes, the woman who escaped from the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women (LCIW) in St. Gabriel early on January 1, 2013.

The reward for her capture is up to $5,000.

Officials say Barnes was given a ride to downtown New Orleans last week. There have been multiple sightings of her in the greater New Orleans area reported to DOC, particularly the Marrero area.

Investigators working the case believe she is receiving help to avoid capture. It should be noted that anyone aiding Barnes will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Barnes, age 33, is 5'4" tall, weighs 140 pounds, and has dark brown eyes and very short
brown hair. She has the letter "K" tattooed on her left hand, a dragon tattoo on her back
and two panther tattoos on her chest.

It is also believed that she has a fairly deep cut on one her fingers that she sustained during the escape. Barnes was serving a 25-year sentence for manslaughter.

Department of Corrections is offering a reward for information in Barnes' case of $2,500. In addition, CrimeStoppers of Greater New Orleans is offering its own $2,500 reward for information in the case.

Barnes is from the New Orleans area and has family and acquaintances there.

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
