An Alabama man has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and paying bribes to a Coast Guard transportation officer.
Fifty-2-year-old Huffman Earl Monk of Brookwood, Ala., pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Norfolk.
The officer, 30-year-old Nathan Allen Dunn, also of Brookwood, pleaded guilty recently to wire fraud and taking bribes.
Dunn was a transportation officer from October 2009 to November 2011 at the Surface Forces Logistics Center in Norfolk, where he was in charge of coordinating the shipment of large freight between Coast Guard bases.
Prosecutors say Dunn conspired to award overpriced or fake shipment contracts to 12 companies owned by Monk in exchange for bribery payments of about $220,000.
Monk and Dunn each face up to 20 years in prison. Both are set to be sentenced in April.
