PETA stages protest outside of Montgomery Deamland BBQ location

Posted: Updated:

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - PETA members took to the street today in Montgomery "Naked and Wrapped in Cellophane" to protest animal rights in front of Deamland Bar-B-Que on Tallapoosa Street.

PETA members wrapped other nearly naked members in cardboard and cellophane to mimic meat packaging. Members say all animals - not just humans- are made of flesh, blood, and bone and also have the same senses and range of emotions that humans do.

"We are challenging people to really think about that 'meat' is," says PETA campaigner Matt Bruce. "When you eat flesh, you're eating the corpse of an abused animal who did not want to die. We're encouraging kind consumers to give veganism a try."

Dreamland responded to the protest stating:

"Dreamland supports every American's right to voice their opinion and we respect PETA's right to stage a lawful protest outside of our Montgomery location. However we do hope that none of our guests were inconvenienced or disturbed by PETA's display on Wednesday.

Dreamland is very proud of the product and service we have been able to provide our guest for over 50 years and we are honored to be part of a rich tradition of Alabama hospitality and great food. We thank all of our guests for being such a special part of our story.
