MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) -

Attorneys for fired Muscle Shoals police officer Greg Scoggins officially filed a letter of appeal to the city's civil service board.

The mayor upheld the decision to fire Scoggins following his appeal hearing last week.

The appeal letter is two pages long and contains allegations of other instances in which officers brought discredit to the department.

In the first paragraph, the letter accuses Mayor David Bradford of shooting turtles from his patrol car while he was an officer.

It goes on to list other cases involving misuse of police cars and behavior considered to be unbecoming of an officer.

Scoggins' attorney said none of those officers were fired, and they plan to uncover all of these cases during the hearing in front of the city's civil service board.

"In our letter, we just pointed out that the apple doesn't fall that far from the tree in terms of what's good for the goose is good for the gander and reminded Mayor Bradford that it wasn't that long ago when he himself was just a patrol officer out on 6th Street by Gnat Pond Road and he himself was outside the city limits of Muscle Shoals, was in his patrol car, and was shooting turtles in Gnat Pond," said attorney Johnnie Franks.

The civil service hearing will be January 15 at 2 p.m. Scoggins' attorneys said they will request it to be open to the public.
